Center for the West

The Cody Firearms Museum at the Center of the West in Cody, WY houses the most comprehensive collection of American firearms in the world. It showcases the role firearms have played in the history of human endeavor and how they shaped the story of the American West. I took the project from schematic design through the beginning of production—developing the graphic vocabulary, hierarchy, coordinating the content, and collaborating strongly with the 3D designer. Although the content was unfamiliar and slightly uncomfortable for me, I developed a strong relationship with the client to understand their vision and express that through the interpretive approach and graphic design. The result is a museum that—rather than being a monument to guns—explores the complex history of firearms, encourages dialogue, and promotes firearm safety. Photos c. 2019 Alex Grummer
